FRANCE-POLITICS-BANKING-EXECUTIVE
Francois Perol, chief executive of French bank Caisse d'Epargne which merged with rival bank Banque Populaire, poses on April 02, 2009 in Paris. French anti-corruption police on April 1, 2009, began a preliminary enquiry into President Nicolas Sarkozy's decision to name Perol to head the major new banking group, a legal source said. The Paris prosecutor's office ordered the probe after complaints by two anti-corruption campaign groups about the appointment last month of Francois Perol to head the Caisse d'Epargne/Banque Populaire banking group.
