PERU-JUSTICE-TRIAL-FUJIMORI-MANCHAY
TO GO WITH AFP STORY
Supporters of former Peruvian President (1990-2000) Alberto Fujimori, put up a sign reading "Fujimori Innocent" on the streets of Manchay, a quickly-spreading town 25 km east of Lima, on April 6, 2009. Manchay is one the strongest bastions of Fujimori, where thousands of residents support the former president despite constantly hearing about corruption and human rights violation accusations against him.T he long-running trial of Fujimori, accused of the murders of 25 people in the early 1990s, is to end on April 9, 2009 with a verdict certain to invite challenge, whatever the result. Fujimori is charged with giving political cover and leadership to an army death squad active during the darkest days of Peru's ulimately successful fight against leftist guerrillas.
