British Derek Sherwin (L) the director of Scapa's European operations, an industrial adhesives manufacturer, leaves the plant of Bellegarde-sur-Valserine prior to a negociation at the city-hall with the prefet deputy on April 8, 2009. Sherwin was taken in hostage at the plant with two British executives and a local manager late Tuesday, by employees to protest against the closing plans of the site. Scapa announced in February it would close the Valserine plant in Bellegarde, saying it was forced to cut back after the market for car industry adhesives collapsed by 50 percent in 2008.
