Somalia's hardline Shebab group on November 12, 2008 took over the southern port of Merka, a key entry point for food aid, further tightening the Islamists' grip on the war-torn Horn of Africa country. There is a growing contingent of foreign jihadists, or holy warriors, who have flocked to lawless Somalia in recent months and include Arabs, western Muslim converts and many members of Somalia's large diaspora.
