Turkish Cypriot people wait to cast their vote at a polling station in Kyrenia, in the Turkish-occupied north part of Cyprus, on April 19, 2009 Turkish Cypriots held general elections on Sunday in a vote likely to boost hardliners and complicate efforts to resolve the long-running division of Cyprus, a threat to Turkey's European Union accession bid. The election comes almost five years to the day since Turkish Cypriots voted in a 2004 referendum overwhelmingly in favour of a UN plan to reunify Cyprus after three decades of division.
