INDIA-VOTE-SECURITY
Indian paramilitary forces patrol the streets of Siliguri on April 23, 2009. Paramilitary troops have been deployed in troubled Darjeeling district where the Gorkha People's Liberation Front (GJM) is fighting for the creation of a separate Gorkhaland state to be carved out of parts of northern West Bengal. Tens of millions of Indians voted in the second and largest stage of month-long elections, which was spared the sort of Maoist violence that marred the first phase of polling.
