BRAZIL-CRIME-ART-PAINTINGS-AMARAL-PORTINARI
A police chief agent presents to the media recovered paintings "Figura em Azul" (R), by Brazilian artist Tarsila do Amaral (1886-1973), "Retrato de Maria" (C) and "Cangaceiro"(L), the last two by Brazilian artist Candido Portinari (1903-1962), in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on May 13, 2009. A gang which stole 1,7 million dollars' worth of paintings from a multimillionaire's Sao Paulo home last weekend has given up the artworks, police said this morning. Disguised as police officers, they entered the home of Ilde Maksoud, an 85-year-old Sao Paulo multimillionaire, after one of them gained access by pretending to make a delivery of Mother's Day flowers.
