Spanish mountaineer Edurne Pasaban moved closer on May 18, 2009 to achieve her goal of becoming the first woman to climb all 14 of the world's highest mountains after she successfully scaled Mount Kangchenjunga on the border between Nepal and India. Pasaban reached the top of the mountain, the world's third-highest with an elevation of 8,586 metres (28,169 ft), with a group of Spanish climbers, her team told Basque public broadcaster EITB.
