NIRELAND-ELECTIONS-ADAMS
Sinn Fein President Gerry Adams speaks at Balmoral Hotel in Belfast 21 October, 2003 about the setting of an election date for Northern Ireland Assembly. Adams, said on Tuesday his party was "opposed to any use or threats of force for any political purpose", in one of his strongest such statements to date. The British government announced elections designed to restore Northern Ireland's power-sharing institutions would be held next month, after the province's Catholic and Protestant political leaders struck a deal to restart the stalled peace.
