SYRIA-IRAQ-UNHCR-REFUGEES
Iraqi refugees protest outside the offices of the UN refugee agency UNHCR in Damascus on May 26, 2009 to demand easier procedures and more opportunities to get immigration visas to other countries. The United Nations estimated last year there were around 1.5 million Iraqis in Syria, including 153,516 who were formally registered as refugees from the conflict that has wracked the country since the US-led invasion of March 2003.
