US-ZOO-GORILLA
An eight-month-old western lowland gorilla ventures away from his troop while foraging for food in his exhibit at the San Diego Zoo on Friday, May 29, 2009. The baby, named Frank, joined his family in the Gorilla Tropics exhibit two months ago and is starting to show more of his natural instincts, including chest beating. This gorilla is expected to grow to more than 400 pounds. Frank and his family are on exhibit every other day at the Zoo. The next day they will be on exhibit again is Sunday, May 31. Updates on Frank also are available by becoming a fan of ?Frank the Gorilla? on Facebook. Gorillas are listed as critically endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, and 2009 was declared the Year of the Gorilla by the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, United Nations Environmental Programme and other organizations working toward conserving the gorilla population. The San Diego Zoo is home to 13 western lowland gorillas. AFP PHOTO / San Diego Zoo / Ken BOHN == RESTRICTED TO EDITORIAL USE / NO SALES / GETTY OUT ==
