GREECE-TURKEY-IMMIGRATION
Immigrants sit on the deck of a Greek Coast Guard vessel after being rescued from an inflatable boat at the maritme border between Greece and Turkey on May 30, 2009 near the small Greek Aegean Sea island of Agathonissi. Over 1,200 immigrants have landed since January on the shores of the island, which lies a short distance from the Turkish coast and has a mere 150 inhabitants. The island's rudimentary accommodation facilities are stretched to capacity and many migrants sleep outdoors, begging for food on the streets, local authorities say. Greece has been struggling to cope with an immigration influx from Asia and Africa that has rapidly grown in recent years. AFP PHOTO / ARISris Messinis
