Spain's opposition conservatives beat the ruling Socialists in European elections seen as a test for the government amid the worst recession in 15 years and soaring unemployment. With 88.49 percent of votes counted, the opposition Popular Party had garnered 42.03 percent and 23 of the 50 seats up for grabs, compared to 38.66 percent and 21 seats for the Socialist Party of Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
