MIDEAST-ISRAEL-PALESTINIAN-SETTLERS
Israeli border policemen disperse Palestinian and left-wing Israeli activists on June 20, 2009 during a protest on agricultural land in the southern West Bank village of Safaa, near Hebron, during which hardline Jewish settlers from the nearby settlement of Bet Ein threw stones on the farmers, according to witnesses. Middle East peace deal is possible only if it is forced on Israelis and Palestinians by US-led efforts, one of Israel's best-known authors has written as he hit out at a speech by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. David Grossman decried Netanyahu for not saying that most Jewish settlers in the occupied West Bank would have to leave in remarks published earlier this week in the liberal Haaretz daily.
