COLOMBIA-DEFENSE-RAMIREZ-RESIGNATION
(FILE) File picture of Colombian Defense Minister Marta Lucia Ramirez (L) and President Alvaro Uribe 31 January 2003 at Tres Esquinas, Caqueta, Colombia, during a ceremony to inaugurate a new military division. Ramirez presented her resignation to President Uribe, 09 November 2003, the presidential palace announced. She was replaced by Jorge Alberto Uribe Echavarria, a 63 year-old insurance businessman. The Colombian government has taken a tough line against leftist guerrilla movements ever since Uribe took office in August 2002.
