NETHERLANDS-ANNE FRANK
Firemen fight a fire on July 18, 2009 in Veendam at the barrack where Jewish teenager Anne Frank and her sister Margot worked during their detention at Westerbork concentration camp. The barrack was moved from the Westerbork to Veendam in 1957 and was used for storage. The cause of the fire is still unknown. Otto Frank and his family, including his daughter Anne Frank, whose diary under the Nazi occupation gained her global posthumous fame, were detained at the Westerbork camp until they were deported to Auschwitz in late 1944.
