A file photo taken on December 14, 2001 shows German theater and film director Peter Zadek attending the premiere of "The Jew of Malta" by Christopher Marlowe at the Burgtheater in Vienna. Zadek has died overnight on July 29-30, 2009 at the age of 83. He was born in Berlin in May 1926 and was widely regarded as one of the greatest directors in German-speaking theater.
