US Marines of 1st Combat Engineer Battalion of 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade look back as the team performs a controlled detonation of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) found on a road in Nawa district in Helmand Province on August 2, 2009 while on patrol to locate and destroy IEDs. About 4,000 US Marines are battling insurgents in a massive offensive launched in the south early June to clear Taliban militants out of strongholds ahead of presidential and provincial council elections scheduled for August 20.
