MALDEN, MO - AUGUST 10: Iraq war veteran suffering from Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Robert Wake stands in his house August 10, 2009 in Malden, Missouri. Wake served in the MP (Military Police) in Iraq in 2003-2004 and saw brutal conditions during battles there, and eventually was seriously wounded by a mortar shell in Najaf. Upon returning to Missouri, he found that his home had been foreclosed on and that he suffered from flashbacks, blackouts and difficulty concentrating, all hallmarks of PTSD. Wake lived alone and without counseling for a few years in a trailer on the grounds of a local airfield; now he's seeking treatment and has recently moved into a new house, and is planning on having his son and grand children move in with him.
