French prosecutors have shelved a probe into the appointment of Perol, a former aide to President Nicolas Sarkozy, after deciding there was no conflict of interest, a judicial source said on September 1st, 2009. Francois Perol, Sarkozy's former deputy chief of staff and economic policy advisor, denied wrongdoing during questioning by police over his appointment as chairman of the Caisse d'Epargne/Banque Populaire group.
