AFGHANISTAN-VOTE-RESULTS
Afghan men pray under a billboard featuring a voter education poster as they wait for Independent Election Commission (IEC) Chief Electoral Officer Daud Najafi for a press conference in Kabul on September 16, 2009. Incumbent Hamid Karzai has won 54.6 percent of the vote in Afghanistan's fraud-tainted presidential election, according to preliminary results announced on September 16. The results, which have yet to be certified, gave Karzai's main rival Abdullah Abdullah 27.7 percent. The Independent Election Commission (IEC) said the preliminary results were tallied from 100 percent of the polling stations used in the August 20 poll. AFP PHOTO/SHAH Marai
