Corinne Lepage, (front), French lawyer of some of the plaintiff coastal towns polluted following the 1999 Erika shipwreck off the Brittany coast, arrives, on October 5, 2009 at the Paris courthouse on the opening day of the Erika appeal trial. The trial aimed at deciding whether Total and other parties bear responsibility for the massive oil spill from the Erika shipwreck polluting a large stretch of coastline and killing tens of thousands of seabirds.
