IRAQ-US-TROOPS
Two US soldiers from the 1st Battalion, 22nd Regiment of the 4th Infantry Division, wait for their commander before going on a mission in Tikrit, 180 Kilometers (110 miles), north of Iraqi capital Baghdad, 30 December 2003. Iraqi police said they had reinforced security in the capital in anticipation of more insurgent attacks over the New Year. "Police have taken strict security measures with the approach of the New Year and have put in place plans to confront possible terrorist attacks against Iraqis and foreigners," Baghdad police chief announced 30 December.
