SWEDEN-RIGHT-LIVELIHOOD-AWARDS
The executive director of the Stockholm-based Right Livelihood Award Foundation, which annually awards the so-called alternative Nobel prize, Ole von Uexkull (R), presents 2009 recipients in the Swedish capital on October 13, 2009. The recipients featured on the screen, from left, are Canadian environmentalist David Suzuki, 73, rewarded for raising awareness on climate change, Congolese activist Rene Ngongo, 48, was honored for forest protection and social justice in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Alyn Warea, a peace activist from New Zealand, was recognized for his advocacy and initiatives over two decades to further peace education and to rid the world of nuclear weapons and Catherine Hamlin, 85, who moved to Ethiopia from Australia in 1959 to work as an obstetrician and gynecologist.
