INDIA-DEFENCE-NSG
National Security Guards (NSG) commandos display their martial-arts skills during a function to celebrate the 25th NSG Raising day in Gurgaon, around 50 kms south of New Delhi, on October 16, 2009. The NSG, dubbed the 'Black Cats' is a federal contingency force established in 1985 and a quick reaction elite force equipped and trained for carrying out counter-hijacking and counter-terrorist operations. The NSG is modelled on Britain's elite Special Air Service (SAS) and the GSG-9, the specialist operations unit of the German police force. The Indian government recommended setting up regional NSG units after the November 26 Mumbai attacks last year, which saw 10 Islamist extremist gunmen kill 166 people and injure more than 300 others in a 60-hour killing spree.
