RUSSIA-VOTE-DEMOCRACY-MEDVEDEV
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev (R) meets with leaders of the dominant United Russia party outside Moscow in Gorki on October 19, 2009. The last Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev launched his bitterest attack yet on the state of democracy in Russia, saying elections had turned into a mockery and the whole system was faulty. Gorbachev's comments came after the ruling United Russia party led by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin swept this month's local polls, prompting allegations of fraud and a rare walkout of parliament by three opposition parties. In attendance were Kremlin advisor Vladislav Surkov (2R) and Speaker of Parliament Boris Gryzlov (2L). AFP PHOTO / RIA NOVOSTI / KREMLIN POOL / DMITRY ASTAKHOV
