Afghanistan's election commission announced on October 21 that main presidential challenger Abdullah Abdullah secured 30.59 percent of the first round August vote. The result elevates the former foreign minister's preliminary result of 28 percent after hundreds of thousands of ballots for his rival, President Hamid Karzai, were eliminated following fraud investigations.AFP PHOTO/SHAH Marai
