CHINA-AFRICA-SUMMIT-BURKINA-TAIWAN
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY ROMARIC OLLO HIEN
(FILES) File picture of Taiwan's President Chen Shui-bian calling for allies' support in Taipei's bid to join the United Nations during a leaders summit in Taipei, 09 September 2007. The one-day summit also grouped leaders from five African states -- Swaziland, Burkina Faso, Sao Tome and Principe, Malawi and Gambia. China's push for political influence and access to the mineral wealth of the African continent has been resisted by some countries such as Burkina Faso which have remained faithful to its arch enemy Taiwan. Since Ouagadougou switched alliances from China to Taiwan in 1994 the Asian country has become one of Burkina's most important bilateral partners after France, the Netherlands and Germany.
