FRANCE-SCIENCE-PHYSICS-ENERGY-ITER
TO GO WITH AFP STORY IN FRENCH :"LE CONSEIL D'ITER POURRAIT RALLONGER LE CALENDRIER DU PROJET" - General director of International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), Japanese Kanama Ikeda, poses on November 12, 2009, in front of the headquarters in Saint-Paul-les-Durance, southern France, where Iter council will gather on November 18 and 19 to decide the project schedule for this international scale experiment. ITER is designed to produce 500 megawatts of power for extended periods, 10 times the energy needed to keep the energy-generating plasma -- a form of radioactive gas -- at extremely high temperatures.
