MIDEAST-ISRAEL-PALESTINIAN-WEST BANK-SETTLEMENT
Palestinian laborers work at a new housing project after Israeli civil administration officers charged with enforcing a partial construction moratorium visited the Kiryat Arba settlement in the West Bank on December 1, 2009. Israeli settler leaders vowed to resist the government decision to impose a temporary ease on West Bank settlement building after months of pressure from the United States. On November 29, Israel's defense ministry announced it would boost the number of inspectors charged with enforcing the government decision of stopping construction. An Israeli Defence ministry statement said there are 14 inspectors to oversee construction in Judea and Samaria (the biblical name of the West Bank) and within two weeks, an additional 40 inspectors will be recruited and trained.
