INDONESIA-AUSTRALIA-BRITAIN-NZEALAND-TIMOR-WARCRIMES
A scene from the banned film Balibo screened in a Jakarta cinema house on December 7, 2009 shows an East Timorese girl witnessing Indonesian troops killing an Australian journalist. Retired Indonesian army special forces colonel Gatot Purwanto spoke to journalists after the special screening Australian movie, depicting alleged war crimes by invading Indonesian forces in East Timor. Purwanto has admitted for the first time that five foreign reporters killed in East Timor in 1975 were shot by Indonesian troops, a report by Indonesian Tempo weekly magazine said December 7. The comments contradict Indonesia's long-held position that the reporters -- two Australians, two Britons and a New Zealander -- were killed in crossfire as Indonesian forces entered the border town of Balibo.
