FILES-CYPRUS-POLITICS-CRIME-PAPADOPOULOS
(FILES) -- A handout file picture released by the Cyprus Press and Information Office (PIO) on December 15, 2008 shows Cypriot national guardsmen standing next to the coffin of Cyprus's former president Tassos Papadopoulos (portrait), draped in a Greek national flag, during his funeral at Ayia Sofia Church in the capital Nicosia. Thieves opened up Papadopoulos' grave and stole his corpse during the night, state television reported on December 11, 2009 as it interrupted its normal programming. The crime comes, the day before a memorial service had to be held to mark the first anniversary of Papadopoulos's death. Papadopoulos, a Greek Cypriot nationalist closely tied to the history of Cyprus since independence from Britain in 1960, died of lung cancer on December 12, 2008 at the age of 74.
