ANTARCTICA-AUSTRALIA-NZEALAND-JAPAN-WHALING
This handout photo released on January 8, 2010 from the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society shows the Sea Shepherd's hi-tech trimaran 'Ady Gil' sinking in the Southern Ocean off Antarctica after it was badly damaged in a collision with Japanese harpoon vessel 'Shonan Maru No 2'. Defiant anti-whaling activists on January 8 vowed to fight on after their high-tech superboat sank in Antarctic seas following a collision with a Japanese ship. Footage of the incident showed the Japanese whaler ploughing on January 6 across the New Zealand-registered Ady Gil's bow and firing water cannon while its crew dived for safety.
