INDIA-RELIGION-FESTIVAL
A sadhu - holy man - offers water to the Sun God during the 'Gangasagar' on Sagar Island where the river Ganges connects with the Bay of Bengal, on January 14, 2010 during the 'Makar Sankranti Festival'. Seven Hindu pilgrims were killed in a stampede at a religious festival on the river Ganges in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal, a senior police official said. The crush happened as hundreds of devotees rushed for places on a ferry to take them to the pilgrimage site on Gangasagar island -- where the holy waters of the Ganges flow into the Bay of Bengal.
