Ahmed and Saber Aziz Abdul al-Duri, a former intelligence chief, were both sentenced to 15 years in jail for their part in the gassing of Kurds in the northern town of Halabja. Ali Hassan al-Majid also known as "Chemical Ali" was sentenced to death by hanging for ordering the gassing, an attack that killed an estimated 5,000 people.
