IRAQ-TRIAL-CHEMICALALI-KURDS
A journalist watches the state-run Al-Iraqiya television channel as it airs the taped trial and sentencing of Iraqi Saber Abdul Aziz Hussein al-Duri, a former intelligence chief, on January 17, 2010, in Baghdad. Duri and Sultan Hashem Ahmed, a former defence minister, were both sentenced to 15 years in jail for their part in the gassing of Kurds in the northern town of Halabja. Ali Hassan al-Majid also known as "Chemical Ali" was sentenced to death by hanging for ordering the gassing, an attack that killed an estimated 5,000 people. Farhan Mutlak al-Juburi, a former Iraqi army chief, was ordered to serve 10 years for his part in the same killings. . AFP PHOTO / SABAH ARAR
