French ex-prime minister Dominique de Villepin attends the "Grand journal" of French TV channel Canal +, on January 29, 2010 in Paris. French prosecutors moved today to appeal a court decision to acquit de Villepin of plotting to smear long-time rival Nicolas Sarkozy and wreck his presidential bid. Villepin immediately responded by branding the appeal as politically-motivated and accused Sarkozy of being "consumed with hate" and fiercely determined to see him behind bars. The decision set the wheels in motion for a second Clearstream trial for the 56-year-old former prime minister, probably at the end of the year or early 2011, Paris prosecutor Jean-Claude Marin told Europe 1 radio.
