FILES-BAHRAIN-US-IRAN-GULF-MISSILE-DEFENCE
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY ALI KHALIL
(FILES) -- A picture dated 30 October 2006 and released by the US Navy shows US navy sailors, assigned to the harbor patrol boat unit from Naval Security Force Bahrain, monitoring merchant ship traffic off the coast of Bahrain near the Mina Salman pier. US deployment of anti-missile defences off Iran's coast and in a number of its Gulf Arab neighbours is certain to fuel tensions in a strategic region that supplies a third of the world's oil, analysts say. The US administration is reportedly placing specialised ships with missile-targeting capabilities off Iran's coast, and anti-missile systems in at least four Gulf states -- Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
