INDIA-RELIGION-FESTIVAL
Hindu devotees take a holy dip in the Ganges river during the Kumbh Mela - Pitcher Fair - in Haridwar on February 12, 2010. Billed as one of the largest Hindu spiritual events in the world, pilgrims believe bathing in the Ganges washes away sins, liberates them from a continuous cycle of birth and reincarnation. The festival, being held 60 kilometres (37 miles) from Uttarakhand's capital city Dehradun commemorates a mythical battle between gods and demons over a pitcher of the nectar of immortality.
