LOS ANGELES, CA - FEBRUARY 12: With one letter remaining, activists continue covering the iconic 450-foot-long Hollywood sign with banners during an effort to prevent the building of houses there on February 12, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. When finished, the sign will read SAVE the PEAK. The Trust for Public Land is draping the sign as it campaigns to raise enough funds to buy Cahuenga Peak and stop developers from purchasing the 138-acre parcel to build mansions around the Hollywood sign. A group of Chicago investors who bought the property from the estate of aircraft titan Howard Hughes in 2002 announced that they plan to subdivide the peak into luxury home sites. The land trust has raised about half the $12.5 million needed to buy the peak. They need to raise the rest by April 14.
