Picture of the Palacio Salvo building at the corner of 18 de Julio Avenue and Plaza Independencia in downtown Montevideo taken during a stormy night on February 19, 2010. The Palacio Salvo was designed by Italian architect Mario Palanti and finished in 1928 -at which time it was the tallest building in South America. It sits on the site where Gerardo Matos Rodriguez first presented one of the world's most famous tangos, La Cumparsita, when a tearoom named Confiteria La Giralda occupied the lot.
