NETHERLANDS-VOTE-MUNICIPAL-HEADSCARF

Local residents wearing headscarfs wait at a polling station in The Hague, on March 3 prior to casting their vote for the municipal elections. The voters agitate against the proposal of Dutch far-right party PVV of Geert Wilders for a ban on allowance for organisations with personnel wearing headscarfs. The Dutch went to the polls Wednesday for local elections viewed as a test of loyalties 10 days after the central government collapsed and three months ahead of early national elections.Polls indicate a rise in the anti-Islam politician Geert Wilders whose Party for Freedom (PVV) is now thought to be the most popular.
