GERMANY-ISRAEL-PHARMA-MERGER-TEVA-RATIOPHARM-FILES
FILES - Picture taken on February 11, 2004 shows an employee of German pharmaceutical company Ratiopharm controlling the bottling of nasal sprays at their plant in Blaubeuren near Ulm, southern Germany. Israeli copycat drugs giant Teva made a major stride into Europe on March 18, 2010 with the five-billion-dollar purchase of Ratiopharm, formerly owned by German billionaire Adolf Merckle who killed himself. Teva is already the world number one in generic medicines -- drugs whose patent has expired -- but less than a quarter of its 14 billion dollars in annual sales comes from Europe.
