GERMANY-ISRAEL-PHARMA-MERGER-TEVA-RATIOPHARM-FILES
FILES - Picture taken on December 2, 2002 shows person in a pharmacy opening a drawer with drugs by German pharmaceutical company Ratiopharm in Dresden. Israeli copycat drugs giant Teva made a major stride into Europe on March 18, 2010 with the five-billion-dollar purchase of Ratiopharm, formerly owned by German billionaire Adolf Merckle who killed himself. Teva is already the world number one in generic medicines -- drugs whose patent has expired -- but less than a quarter of its 14 billion dollars in annual sales comes from Europe.
