KENYA-HUMANRIGHTS-GOVERNMENT-AU
Endorois elders spit a traditional brew onto palm fronds on March 20, 2010 by the shores of Lake Bogoria, approximately 300 kilometres nothwest of Nairobi, to call blessings on themselves during a celebration ceremony. After nearly four decades, Kenya?s indigenous Endorois community today celebrated finally returning to their ancestral lands, thanks to a landmark decision by the African Union; in a ground-breaking ruling, the African Commission on Human and Peoples? Rights concluded in May 2009 that the Kenyan Government acted illegally in removing the Endorois community from their ancestral land, a decision was approved by the African Union at its January 2010 meeting in Addis Ababa .
