TAIWAN-US-BARBIE
Lifestyle-Taiwan-US-Barbie,FEATURE, by Amber Wang
An employee sorts out the Barbie dolls, in the likeness of former first lady Tseng Wen-hui, wife of former president Lee Teng-hui, from a cabinet at the Meining workshop in Taishan, Taipei county, on March 5, 2010. For two decades until 1987, it was a centre for the production of Mattel's iconic doll, which kept up to one-third of its residents busy. Although the factory is long gone, former Mattel workers are keen to preserve the Barbie legacy, and have opened a workshop for elaborate hand-made costumes for the doll. AFP PHOTO / Sam YEH
