SYRIA-FOOD-CHOCOLATE
TO GO WITH AFP STORY BY AHMAD KHATIB
The owner of Syria's most famous chocolate maker Bassam Ghraoui holds an album of old pictures during an interview with AFP at his office in Damascus on March 31, 2010. Belgium and Switzerland may be the current kings of chocolate, but Syrian confectioners believe another country deserves to be up there too, and already they are feeding an international sweet tooth. Ghraoui, a civil engineer-turned-businessman, told AFP that his father Sadek was the first to manufacture chocolate in the Middle East in the early 1930s. But now the family firm is facing competition from others. AFP PHOTO/ LOUAI BESHARA
