The crew of the Shuttle Discovery leave the operations building, on April 24, 1990 to board the orbiter for their launch carrying the Hubble Space Telescope. Left to right are Bruce McCandlass, pilot Charlie Bolden, Kathryn Sullivan, Steve Hawley and Commander Loren Shriver. Hubble, the first space telescope which revolutionized astronomy and our vision of the universe by transmitting images of remote galaxies, celebrates the twentieth anniversary of its launching.
