US-NATURAL HISTORY-AUCTION
From the former Roy Rogers Museum in Branson, Missouri, a large smoky Arkansas quartz (L), a fire agate gold ring (C) and a bolo tie with an agatized coral stone in a metal horseshoe-form mount, are on display before sale at auction, May 6, 2010 in Los Angeles. Bonhams & Butterfields' upcoming National History Auction, on May 27 in New York, will afford bidders the opportunity to own an unusal selection of prehistoric fossils, archeological artifacts, gold nuggets, meteorite slices and even a Martian meteorite discovered in the Mojave Desert in 1999. Roy Rogers, an American singer and cowboy actor from the 1950's, was a gem and mineral collector who polished and designed both the ring and the bolo tie. Also on auction is the 1968 magazine showing Rogers on the cover holding the same Arkansas quartz. AFP PHOTO / Robyn Beck
