A peaceful demonstration turned violent after an alleged infiltrator was thrashed by Maoists and police used tear gas to break up the fighting. Nepal's opposition Maoists ended their nationwide indefinite general strike on May 7 after six days of national shutdown that crippled businesses and affected daily life.
